The eight categories of eligible recipients
Zakat is distributed strictly to the recipients identified in Surah At-Tawbah, verse 60. The Foundation's eligible programmes serve recipients in categories marked below.
The poor (Fuqara)
Patients and families unable to meet basic needs.
The needy (Masakin)
Those whose means cannot cover medical or educational expenses.
Zakat administrators
Not used by the Foundation — administration is funded separately.
Those whose hearts are to be reconciled
Not a category we operate in.
Freeing captives
Not a category we operate in.
Those in debt (Gharimeen)
Patients with medical debt may qualify under this category.
In the cause of Allah (Fi Sabilillah)
Education programmes for deserving students may qualify under this category.
The wayfarer (Ibn as-Sabil)
Stranded patients travelling for medical care.
